Personanteckningar

Peter carried carpenter's tools to USA. Owned a used furniture

store in Pacific Beach, California from about 1928 until about

1938.

Opened a used furniture store in La Mesa, California, partner with

son-in-law Percy Daniels.

Retired about 1940, sold store to Percy Daniels and bought 14

acres of land with small house, outhouse, barn, well on mountain

side of Mt. Woodson, southwest of Ramona, California. About 200

yards from Mt. Woodson Ranger Station (son Everett C. Carlson,

Ranger in Charge). The Ranger Station was home to Everett C.

Carlson, Agnes J. Landry and Donald J. Carlson.

Peter spent about 18 years clearing the land on the mountain side.

He raised chickens, rabbits, fruit orchard, and a beautiful

garden. We ate chickens, eggs, rabbits, vegetables, fruits during

the rationing of WWII. Maintained a trap line, trapping wild

animals for their hides. He sold the hides as well as the rabbit

skins. Live trapped some animals for sale to people who wanted

wild animals (foxes for ritzy ladies to walk on a leash). About

1946 indoor plumbing installed with toilet, tub and sink in a new

bathroom. Barn full of antiques, junk and 20 years of National

Geographic magazines - it burned down about 1956

One day he caught 2 skunks in a live trap. Dilemma - how to

release or kill the skunks without being sprayed. No solution -

he got sprayed!

Ate supper with son's family every night. Played cribbage with

grandson Donald every night possible. Read newspaper everyday,

listened to news on radio faithfully and then when TV was

available, watched the news every night.

The chicken pen was across a small ravine from his bedroom. When

noise from the chicken pen woke him up (usually from coyotes or

foxes killing chickens) he would slip the window open and open

fire with his shotgun. This usually killed more chickens than the

coyotes or foxes would kill. I don't think he ever hit anything

other than chickens.

Drove a 1938 Dodge Coupe - ran a stop sign and was hit by another

car in 1956 - refused to drive again - felt he was unsafe behind

the wheel. Had stroke about 1958, spent last two years in nursing

home in El Cajon, California.
